为了寻找新的绘画语言和感受,我曾多次到西部藏地,历经青海的黄河源头、长江源头、柴达木、西藏的阿里、珠峰、那曲、甘南的玛曲、碌曲、夏河……使我有了和藏地藏人近距离接触的机缘。藏地大自然的纯净博大,苍茫;藏人的真切挚热,刚悍和淳朴,给我以震撼。在当今缤纷物化的时代里,藏地藏人那种本源状态给人带来了生命的感悟和灵魂的洗刷。那是一个能使人魂断的神秘境地。我企图走得更近,可它永远在远方,这远方包含着变化、失去与永恒……这也像人生,总是在企图超越与无法超越的过程中。
藏地留下的近万张照片,已成为我生命中不可磨灭的记忆。随着岁月流失,我仍被这些记忆所感动,开始探索用版画语言再现那注满灵动与激情的画面……。创作中我如同那世代用不息生命将佛像与经文雕刻在石头上、印制在经幡上的藏人,怀着虔诚的心,把这不灭的记忆不断的迹化,以表达我对藏地藏人的深深敬仰和感动……。
Searching for a Memory of the Past
Seeking a new artistic language and experience, I journeyed to the source of the Yellow and the Yangtze rivers in Qinghai Province, Qaidam, Tibet’s Ngari, Jomoglangma, Naqu and areas including Maqu, Klu-ch and Xiahe in Southern Gansu Province many times. During my travels, I had opportunities to make close contact with the natural scenery and people of Tibet. The pure, magnificent and dusky scenes and the sincere, hospitable people deeply touched me. In these materialistic times, Tibet’s natural scenery and the people’s pursuit of a pure and simple life cleanses my soul. Tibet is such a beautiful and mysterious land that people are reluctant to leave. I try to get closer to it, yet it is still distant. This distance lies in change, loss and eternity…much like life, in which we are always in the process of striving for transcendence but never quite transcending.
The thousands of photos of Tibet I took have become an unforgettable memory in my life. As the time goes by, I am still moved by the precious recollections, and I attempt to convey these vibrant and passionate images by exploring and using the visual symbols of print. In my work, I try my best to visualize the memory with a sincere heart, as if I were a Tibetan who inscribes images of Buddha and religious scriptures on stones or prints them on prayer flags. Through my artwork, I would like to express my great admiration and passion for the beautiful land and people of Tibet.
