2016-07-18 “FISHLAMPS”展览展览海报FRANKGEHRY作品香港 展览时间：2016-07-18-2016-09-16 展览城市：香港-香港 展览机构：香港高古轩画廊 展览地址：香港毕打街12号毕打行7层 参展人员：FRANKGEHRY 展览介绍 Thefishisaperfectform.—FrankGehryGagosianGalleryispleasedtopresent“FrankGehry:FishLamps,”anexhibitionofGehry’sanimatedanddynamiclightsculptures.Oneofthemostcelebratedarchitectslivingtoday,Gehry’scareerspanssixdecadesandthreecontinents.Knownforhisimaginativedesignsandcreativeuseofmaterials,hehasforeveralteredtheurbanlandscapewithspectacularbuildingsthatareconceivedasdynamicstructuresratherthanstaticvessels.Gehryhasalwaysexperimentedwithsculptureandfurnitureinadditiontohisarchitecturalpursuits,coaxinginventiveformsoutofunexpectedmaterials,fromtheEasyEdges(1969–73)andExperimentalEdges(1979–82)—chairsandtablescarvedfromblocksofindustrialcorrugatedcardboard—totheKnollfurnitureseries(1989–92),fashionedfrombentwood.TheFishLampsevolvedfroma1983commissionbytheFormicaCorporationtocreateobjectsfromthethen-newplasticlaminateColorCore.Afteraccidentallyshatteringapieceofitwhileworking,Gehrywasinspiredbytheshards,whichremindedhimoffishscales.ThefirstFishLamps,whichwereshownin“FrankGehry:UniqueLamps”in1984atGagosianLosAngeles,employedwirearmaturesmoldedintofishshapes,ontowhichshardsofColorCoreareindividuallyglued,creatingclearallusionstothemorphicattributesofrealfish.Sincethecreationofthefirstlampin1984,Gehry’sFishLampshavebeenexhibitedinLondon,Paris,HongKong,andnowRome.ThefishhasbecomearecurrentmotifinGehry’swork,asmuchforits“gooddesign”asforitsiconographicalandnaturalattributes.Itsquicksilverappealinformstheundulating,curvilinearformsoftheGuggenheimMuseuminBilbao,Spain(1997);theJayPritzkerPavilioninChicago(2004);andtheMarquésdeRiscalVineyardHotelinElciego,Spain(2006),aswellastheFishSculptureatVilaOlímpicainBarcelona(1989–92)andStandingGlassFishfortheMinneapolisSculptureGarden(1986).In2012Gehrydecidedtorevisithisearlierideas,andbeganworkingonanentirelynewgroupofFishLamps.Theresultingworksrangeinscalefromlife-sizetooutsize,andtheuseofColorCoreisbolder,incorporatinglargerandmorejaggedelements.Thesculpturesareeachunique,andeachmadebyhand.ThesoftlyglowingFishLampsarefullofwhimsyandvigor.Curlingandflexinginattitudesofsimulatedmotion,theseartificialcreaturesemitawarm,incandescentlight.Thisintimationoflife,underscoredbythealmostorganictexturesofthenuancedsurfaces,presentsaspiritedsymbiosisofmaterial,form,andfunction.
